Dear friend,
Being far away, I still find myself connected to you. And something I miss the most from living in the same place is that spontaneous physical interaction that is impossible to share even through modern technology - gestures, dancing, sharing food, sleeping next to each other, even coughing and sneezing in the presence of each other. All the things which you sometimes love sometimes get annoyed by them, but in the end they are the ones that make interactions alive and beautiful. Thinking of the way to stay close to the people I love and who happened to be far far away, I thought of drawing. Drawing is a sort of documentation of a gesture, a step, a print, a mark. In a way it is a memory of the action just frozen in time, living its own inner life. So I wanted to invite you to play this little fun game with me. The rules are simple: one person (let's say you first) draws a postcard, or better say a drawing on the postcard format. It could be anything and done with anything - autumn leaves, drops of coffee, newspaper article - it could be abstract, literal, it could be in words, in any language. When done the postcard is shipped to me. When I will get it, I would have to place a clean piece of paper right next to your postcard - like a wagon after a wagon in a train - and continue drawing your poscard creating my own, like the thought is continued in a dialogue, or your step is atuned to the pace of another when you walk together. When done I will send my postcard which wll grow out of yours to you and you would have to continue it just like I continued yours. So in the end we would get a long long drawing, split across 2 continents/cities/countries. And I will have only your part and you will have mine. If you would be interested in drawing this little dialogue with me, please either send me your address or just mail me at (challenge to write in cyrillic!): Darya Tsymbalyuk Nelson street 24, St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, UK KY16 8AJ I would be very happy if you join in, My loves, D. |
