Umberto Saba |
ogni altro male, ogni altra vita*_
_* from Italian:"all other evils, all other life" - a quote taken from a poem "La capra" by Umberto Saba
Inspired by the ancient tradition of making knot figures "ogni altro male, ogni altra vita" concentrates on how through understanding the burdens of another, we are able to discover our unity with other people .
Around 8OO figures were made out of twigs and twine, each of them carries an anonymous note from a person of Gambier community. Whether it was a stranger or a friend, I asked people to express their concerns and burdens on small pieces of paper, which later were wrapped into the figures. On 24th of September 2011 with a sunrise the figures were arranged on the Ransom Lawn (Kenyon College, Gambier, OH). The eiloid form of the piece reflects the process of winding, by which the figures were created. "ogni altro male, ogni altra vita" was taken down after a performnance on the 30th of September 2011. |
